There was a time where blogs were nothing more than a place for people to share personal updates about their lives. Things have changed a little since then.

Many of the web’s most influential and profitable websites began as humble blogs with single contributors. From entertaining to educational, hilarious to helpful, a handful of bloggers have transformed their blogs into globally known pages, netting hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in the process.

Let’s have a look at a few.

1. Pat Flynn – Smart Passive Income

If you’ve ever done some research in the world of internet marketing, you will have come across Pat Flynn. His website ‘Smart Passive Income’ documents his journey to build a passive income online. His transparent, personal approach and helpful tips have built him a large and loyal fanbase.

And it seems like the world agrees.

Since its inception Perezhilton.com has become one of the world’s hottest celebrity gossip blogs, netting Perez Hilton (real name Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.) some serious cash in the process. Some figures report the site’s income through ad banners as around $450,000 per month… Not bad for a gossip blog!

What started in 2005 as the project of a solo blogger, Gina Trapani, has since become a global success earning $60,000+ per month (largely through ad banners).
